Around 7pm when I was preparing to go to church my friend from Ngabu, that is 50 km away from home south of Chikwawa district. I welcomed him together with my wife. My wife prepared break fast for him. “There is nothing to eat at home my friend, almost three days without taking nsima”. That friend complained. He told me that he came all the way from Ngabu to seek some financial assistance from me. I advised him to wait for only one day so that I could found some moneys because I was waiting for someone to provide me. “You know a newly born baby is too much costing”. I told him. I confirmed him that I was financially embarrassed, but I try to him what I earned.
In the evening, we had to move around within the village to meet and chat with some village friends. He was so impressed to see electricity that was installed in the village. “How possible was that this typical village can have electrified as if it is a trading centre”. The friend amazed. Explained to him about Fairtrade premium funds, after sugar sales on fairtrade deal, which is aimed at developing local producers as well as surrounding communities. “Can that fairtrade deal with our cotton we grow at home as you already know?” Friend asked me. I told him that was very possible, but there are some procedures to be followed so that an organization should qualify to be registered.
