The Kasinthula management called all farmers for a meeting. All Chinangwa based farmers boarded the truck for the meeting at around 9am. The meeting started at 10 sharp. Brian, the general manager started the meeting by welcoming all members present together with Tradition Authority Katunga.
Brian said that he and the entire management decided to call for the meeting because field cane activities are not properly done by farmers because farmers are not serious in tackling the allocated operations to them. He explained that Kasinthula in 2008 has increased the sugar tonnage because there was a proper coordination between management and farmers. He also explained that many labours are dropping the work because of the low salaries Kasinthula Cane Growers pay to the labours. He (Brian) asked members if they can admit the employees’ salary increase. One of the farmers commended the management for calling that meeting that would assist farmers understand their stand on this cane production.
Before lunch hour, members enjoyed bottles of drinks and one packet of biscuit. The meeting proceeded with several questions from farmers. The Tradition Authority concluded the meeting by appealing to all members to work extra hard in canes field for 2009 bumper yield so that Fairtrade Premium fund should also be so high in order to implement more premium funded projects.
Chifundo visit
Chifundo is my sister inlaw who is basing at Dembo, eastern side of Chikwawa district. She is the sister to late Reginna who was once my wife when I just finished the Malawi School Certificate of Education Examinations. When she passed just soon after marriage, I advised her only young sister who depended on her very old grandmother for survival to keep on visiting me and assist her if possible in some circumstances. She came with her young baby called Brian.
