An African Doctor

I went again to School because our lecture told us to have two days for classes so that we cover a lot before September.

After classes I was moving towards the depot and at the vendors market down along the Mudi River was an African doctor. That doctor persuaded people to be assisted by him in terms of illness and other problems they face freely.

He advised the six people that were with him to release their money from the pockets and he took the money into his pocket. One of the six people asked why the doctor was keeping their money and he answered that he did not steal from them but they have deliberately given him. Those people agreed to beat and bull and seize him their moneys.

All his equipments were burnt and hundreds of people came to witness the scene.

Blantyre

I was stranded where to get money for transport to Blantyre to attend classes for my studies. I went to the office (KCGL), to ask accountant to borrow me Mwk500.00 from the petty cash and unfortunately there was no money.

Luckily, General Manager, Brian Namata took me on his vehicle to Blantyre because he had something to do there. Our lecture told us to discuss impacts of Gender Issues in rural areas. Judth Chisale and I discussed and presented to our lecture.

General farmers meeting

The Kasinthula Fair Trade Premium Fund Committee produced a cheque worth MWK2.5m for plough out to pay FES, the contractor.

Traditional Authority Katunga who is also one of the cane farmers at Kasinthula called for the general farmers meeting to begin at 8:00am.

Went to work hungry

Around 6:00am after taking bath I asked my sister if she had prepared break fast, but she told me that there was nothing to take as a break fast. I went to work hungry.

When I went for lunch, I found my mother just preparing relish and I waited till I took food (nsima). I went back to the office and I was 20 minutes late.

Long Neck Bird Meal

Late afternoon around 4:00pm I went to irrigate my maize with my friend Alfred Butao to assist me. There came Charles Dick with a long neck bird in his hand like a cock weighing almost 1kg.

He told us that he was in the nearby bushes looking for mice and fortunately killed that bird using his catapult. He said that he had killed the bird at a distance of almost 40 meters by directly hitting the head.

He was going to enjoy the meal with that bird as relish.

A Hearing

At around 11:00am the KCGL General Manager and Phase one Manager had 4 employees for hearing. These employees were suspected of selling fuel (diesel) pumped from Kasinthula’s machines and the contractor’s, FES who is doing plough out.

The matter was referred to Chikwawa Police Station where one of the Kasinthula’s guard and contractor’s machine operator were arrested.

Malaria

I was down with malaria and my sister informed my future wife Bertha, then she came home to cheer me at 8:45am and she was departing at 4:50pm for her home.

At around 5:15pm almost 5 Phase two farmers gathered at my brother’s compound and were discussing some issues.

Buying Chips

I went again to School for my studies for our lecture told us to work so hard on Social Work and Community Welfare and Gender, because we were behind as exams are just due in September.

I enjoyed the introduction of a topic Social Psychology by our lecturer Mr. Ntofu. Before knocking off at 12:00 noon, my future wife called and asked me to buy her chips at Dyeratu Trading Center and got her home. I bought her chips costing Mwk100.00 and 2 eggs.

Dyeratu Trading depot

Around 7:10 am, I was at Dyeratu Trading depot waiting for minibuses to lift me to Blantyre for my studies in Rural Community Development Diploma 1 ABMA at Blantyre Business College.

I spent almost an hour no minibus coming from Nchalo to lift me. Around 8:17 am I saw Phillip Sibaud in front of the vehicle he boarded passing to Blantyre for his journey back to UK the following day together with industrious photographer T.Short.
