The burning issue was my engagement ceremony to Bertha. The organizing committee for the engagement ceremony had to arrange everything in place. The committee borrowed 160 plastic chairs. The traditional dances started early morning like mabatcha whereby two men had drums followed by women dancing surrounding the drummers. Over 350 people and four group village headmen turned up to participate the ceremony.
The ceremony started at 2:00pm with a prayer by Bertha’s father, Likagwa. Then master of the ceremony Mr.Biliati called all representatives of both Elod and Bertha. My parents were brought forward and then Bertha’s parents were too brought. Then I was firstly taken out of the room to presence of the funs. After people rejoicing for my presence, Bertha was also taken out to the presence of the funs. It was so beautiful and colorful. After the ceremony I hired a vehicle to lift people back to Chinangwa village that cost Mk2500.00.
After all I had Bertha at my home to start a new life. Bertha and I prayed for all who showed interests and support on our marriage to be blessed and have good luck.

I left for Blantyre for my studies. We only dealt on social and community welfare. I was knocking off at around 3:30pm. While at the deport waiting minibus to lift me to Chikwawa I received a call from my brother asking me to have the engagement ceremony postponed because people were not yet paid. I responded that failing to have the ceremony on Saturday is the same as failing to marry Bertha. At 7:00evening a lot of people from Chinangwa village especially women went to Lauji village where Bertha was basing to have a whole night dance. The young drummers carried away lots of people with their tune.
