It was too hot and sunny, but I paid an excuse to my boss to have studies at National Initiative for Civic Education at Chikwawa central district. There were very good books worth my course I am doing at Blantyre Business College. I enjoyed some of books which concern Gender issues. There was one area that talked much on women empowerment as only instrumental for sustainable human development.

Around 4pm all cane cutters were so happy for they completed cane harvesting without any challenge on this year’s harvest. I met one of the cutters who told me that he was so happy because this year harvest has gone perfect and they are leaving for their respective homes to do other activities like preparing their garden for it is about rainy season. Farmers are too happy because other years harvesting had some challenges like wild fire, rainfall after cutting before haulage.
The premium committee resolved to prepare the first payment to contractor/ electrician who had done almost ¾ of the given task. The contractor was told to come on the following day to collect his payment. He was inspected by one of the ESCOM officials to verify the smooth running of the job.
Around 3am a certain boy who stays with his uncle who is a friend to my brother got my brother and borrowed his bicycle pretending that he wanted to take someone to hospital. My bother assisted him and at 6am he went to ask his uncle if there was someone who was sick and was taken to hospital. His uncle said that the guy has escaped because everything belonging to him has been taken and nowhere he had gone. My brother realized that his bicycle has been stolen. At 4pm someone came and told my brother that he met the guy at eastern bank of Chikwawa district over 40km away from home.
Due to the account problem I failed to withdraw some money for transport to Blantyre for my studies. The bank teller advised me that my signature was not available in the system. I was told to process for signature to reappear. I wanted to withdraw some when I was at the bank for the process but it didn’t work. My lecture called me that if I was on the way to school. I told him that I failed and the other week I will not fail.
It was cold and showering morning and the weather was so fine because it’s summer season. Three Kasinthula employees were called to meet David for interview on his research on Fairtrade impacts. With assistance from Mornica of Chancellor College of Malawi on interpretation. And in the afternoon he interviewed two farmers.
David Phillips of Newcastle University who had been in Malawi for almost five weeks came at Kasinthula Cane Growers offices to meet T/A Katunga on his research on Fairtrade impacts. David visited Chinangwa village where I stay and was happy to see electrification project that was implemented through premium fund. David visited my house and my wife welcomed him. When I got home from work my wife said that she was so happy to have welcomed David at home. I went for lunch with David at Matechanga Motel. After lunch David discussed other issues with Brian and later with Stella, Steward and Wilfred some of the management staff.
Early morning at a certain house there was a crowd of people to see demonic aircraft that crashed on the roof of a certain man. Investigation to know the owner is still done because there were no any injuries or deaths as well as nobody found inside the plane. Witchcraft scenes are commonly experienced and seen by everybody. In Malawi it was unlawful to accuse someone that he/ she flies demonically, but due to increase cases of children taught witchcraft and eat human fresh magically it is now a crime.
It was so hot and after lunch I had a nap. I woke up due to rats’ noises and I saw some of them hid behind the two bags of maize stored inside my house. I closed some of the doors and called my wife who came to assist me killing those rats. My wife had to fetch them from where they hid and I was at the entrance they used. I managed to kill ten rats. I was so happy because they bringing food insecurity in my family for they are destroying maize that is my family’s staple food. Rats used to eat white maize excessively and a lot of people are superstitious of how rats destroy inside houses bringing about food insecurity.
When I got home for lunch I found my sick. I didn’t turn up for work again. At around 4pm I was at home studying and electricians were just knocking off. I saw one of electricians carried a bag full of something. I called him and asked if he could allow me to search his bags. He allowed me while trembling. After opening his bag I found that he took two rolls of 1.5 wire worthy Mk10, 000.
