At around 2 am, my baby was just crying continuously. In the morning, my wife and I took her to Chikwawa hospital for medicare. The baby was assisted and her mother advised to have frequent breast-feeding. At around 9 am, the baby seemed to recover. With that baby’s problem, I did not go to work and at 2pm, I went to meet my boss for morning excuse. When we were coming from the hospital, we bought vegetables and a half kg of goat meat for relish. My wife prepared good meal that I enjoyed.

As I am just looking forward to have last year’s exams results for Diploma 1, I went to school where I was doing my studies to have the Diploma 2 costs like transport to school, stationary needed (books), and school and exams fees. I wanted to know how much is to be spent this year. I was supposed to leave Blantyre at around 2pm, but was raining heavily.
A drunken woman raped by four men.
One of my cousins does brew local beer known as kachaso. On this day, there were also taking that local beer and that woman got them there. She asked if she could join them and they welcomed her. After a few hours, she got drunk and failing even to recognize home. She fell down and slept. One of the men had an access to rape her. After the other three recognized that, their friend had that opportunity they started quarrelling for sex and all of them satisfied their interests. At that hour, that woman was still asleep with local beer, kachaso. It was so sad because in Malawi HIV/AIDS epidemic is at high crisis. That scene was taking place at around 8 evening
This man is one of the Kasinthula cane farmers. He went to Nchalo to draw his money at the New Building Society Bank. After drawing, he was interested with a certain tricky game, which is illegal by Malawi law. When that game is played people are asked to pay money pledged that they could win more than what was paid. That farmer was persuaded to pay only less than one dollar. That farmer paid it and won three dollars, then when was impressed to continue playing that tricky game by paying 4 dollars and was won by the game’s owners. The man was persuaded again to pay for the last chance was for him. He paid all he had and too won by the game’s owners. The man cried for his money and was told that they did not call him. The man even failed to travel from Nchalo to Chikwawa because he had nothing to use as a means of transport. A certain well-wisher woman covered transport cost for him.
Did not go for work. In the morning when I was about to leave for work I checked my bicycle if it was in good condition. It is about 4.5 km away from home, Chinangwa village to where I work. I was just listening to the radio and nursing the baby, but still I was worried for not going to work.
I left for the work without taking breakfast because I had no sugar that my wife could just prepared porridge or tea for me before left. I survived working up to noon hour.
When I got home in the evening from work, I was called by my friend Alfred to witness a woman who was red handed with secret lover. The husband to that naughty woman is one of the Kasinthula cane farmers. “Gentlemen, this woman is so stupid, somebody tipped me that she had been doing this stupid behavior whenever I am at work”. The owner of the wife told Alfred and me. That time the scene was referred to the village headman. The man confirmed that it was direct divorce. It was so sad because the family have three children who are so young and need parental care and the HIV/AIDS epidemic as one factor which is contributing poverty when parents dead of it leaving children alone behind starving.
Around 7pm when I was preparing to go to church my friend from Ngabu, that is 50 km away from home south of Chikwawa district. I welcomed him together with my wife. My wife prepared break fast for him. “There is nothing to eat at home my friend, almost three days without taking nsima”. That friend complained. He told me that he came all the way from Ngabu to seek some financial assistance from me. I advised him to wait for only one day so that I could found some moneys because I was waiting for someone to provide me. “You know a newly born baby is too much costing”. I told him. I confirmed him that I was financially embarrassed, but I try to him what I earned.
In the evening, we had to move around within the village to meet and chat with some village friends. He was so impressed to see electricity that was installed in the village. “How possible was that this typical village can have electrified as if it is a trading centre”. The friend amazed. Explained to him about Fairtrade premium funds, after sugar sales on fairtrade deal, which is aimed at developing local producers as well as surrounding communities. “Can that fairtrade deal with our cotton we grow at home as you already know?” Friend asked me. I told him that was very possible, but there are some procedures to be followed so that an organization should qualify to be registered.
With a new born baby I didn’t go to work because I had to do home chores for my wife could not manage to prepare food, drawing water and even cleaning the home. Early morning I woke up to draw water from the borehole. After drawing water I prepared breakfast and then cooking relish. While cooking I was also cleaning the home. The friend to my wife came to ease me by continuing cooking relish. At lunch hour, she prepared nsima as well.
Mother and sister in-laws came. They came home to see a newly born baby. My sister in law prepared nsima and relish which i bought at Dyeratu trading center
A certain man who used to hunt birds came home early morning before I left for work. I bought 60 birds at $2.14. “I am going to enjoy today’s meal”. My wife said.
Farmers’ meeting. At eight am, farmers had a meeting where they resolved different issues as well as Fairtrade Premium Funds. I did not attend that meeting for I was busy updating 2006 and 2007 Kasinthula Fairtrade Premium Funds as my boss, accountant directed me.
A boy baby born. When I was about to go lunch, my friend Alfred called me that my wife was not feeling ok. “Go home and witness the situation if there is a need of a vehicle to take her to hospital”. I told Alfred. That time I was at the work. Alfred told me to call him again after 5 minutes to verify himself at my house. After 5 minutes that’s at 12:14 noon I called him again to tell me how situation was and he told me that the situation was over because my wife gave a birth. It was my pleasure and I paid an excuse to go home to welcome that new boy baby.
In the morning when I woke up my wife told me that there was nothing to take as breakfast. Even 2 children i have at my home went to school hungry. I had no any money that I could use to buy potatoes or cassava and sugar so that I could have taken tea. I went to work hungry up to knocking off hour, 12 noon. I felt pain. My real concern was to the children who went to school hungry because for me was just ok, I managed to cope with that situation. My wife as expectant woman she was supposed to have breakfast, it was too sorry for she had nothing to take as well.
Stolen goats found. When I was about to arrive home while cycling I was told by my friend’s wife, Alfred that at a certain cane farmer house there were a lot of people for there was 4 goats which were stolen at Supuni village over 6 km away from Chinangwa village. I proceeded to witness that scene. The suspected men were refusing those claims. Owners of those goats said that there were over 28 goats. We called police officers that came and took those suspected men.
A man fought a mad man. It was around 5 pm, when I was just arriving Dyeratu Trading Centre to prepare watching football matches on TV at 7 evening. I heard people roaring. I went closer where people were making those naughty noises and saw men fighting, but I recognized that one of them was a mad man. A normal man lost his tooth. While they were fighting, police officers came and took the normal man leaving the madman.
After knocking from my work, I left for home to have some food. My wife prepared me good food. I took nsima with fresh fish and vegetables. I grew different varieties of vegetables, which she just fetched and prepared. At around 6:10 evening Alfred and I left for Dyeratu trading centre to watch football match on TV. Though Dyeratu trading centre is about 4.5 km away from home we manage to go every evening to watch African Cup of Nations. It was Cameroon and Senegal. It was crucial game and ended Cameroon 2 and Senegal 2 that is draw. After that, we still watched South Africa and Angola that match too ended draw by South Africa 1 and Angola 1.
Heavy rainfall. After watching the matches respectively, it started raining. It was too dark and we had difficulty move when going home. We had my friend’s bicycle but we failed to use it because of the wetness. We were arriving home at around 11 night.
I did not go to work for I attended funeral ceremony of one of the cane farmer Charles. It was so sad because that farmer was so young and was just boosting. At around 7:30am, people gathered at the graveyard to prepare a place for Charles to rest. Ate some fruits at the graveyard. One man who was one of the people who were preparing at the graveyard went into a nearby bush, and then he called us that he found some fruits. We went where the man was and we ate well ripen fruits.
