It was cool as the weather in June is winter Robert and I left for work. At lunch hour, we got home for lunch. When we turned for the work after lunch, some employees who were cutting seeds for some fields replanting got to the office with a thief who was driving eleven goats without any buying document. “We saw him crossing at a certain distance away from where we were working. We suspected him because he going towards a certain natural forest. We understood that had it been that he bought these goats he might use the common road” employees said. Kasinthula HR asked the suspect if he had any buying document, but he failed to produce. Chikwawa police was called to take that suspect. When the police officers got to the office, they asked him where he stole those goats. He then admitted that he had stolen those goats from a certain village. He was then arrested and those goats were boarded in the police car. One of the CID’s officers recognized the suspect that was the most wanted man at the police because he had been wanted but was hiding. He congratulated employees for their courage to catch that man.

As Fairtrade guarantees a better deal the Third World producers, Kasinthula Cane Growers is one of the most beneficiaries from premium it receives from sugar sales on fairtrade deal. After premium audit, my manager asked me to give him a complete audit report. It was a document that I was asked by the Fairtrade inspector to fill all expenses and total income. I managed to fill whatever was needed and submitted it to the general manager. Still it was cool with cloud cover.
Always my wife had been complaining of being tired drawing water on her head from the borehole about 350 meters. I realized that it was a burden to her because she is also responsible taking care of the baby as well as preparing food for home. She had been asking me to buy another bicycle because the old one was not in good condition. I one day told her that I had to reserve some money to buy the brand new bicycle. “I understand that drawing water on your head is totally a problem, but I will try to relieve you this burden” I told my wife. It was this day when I left for Blantyre to buy a brand new bicycle of which my wife was so happy. “Thank you very much for buying me a bicycle because it shall assist me in several ways like drawing water, collecting firewood from long distances and or even going to hospital when Junior that’s my child is sick” my wife said.
It was sunny and some patches cloud. I left for the work after taking breakfast. It was nice breakfast because my wife prepared rice porridge with fresh cow milk that she took from my parents. When I got to the work, I was just filing different Fairtrade premium documents as one way of proper filing system. After Fairtrade inspection on 12th June 2008, most of the premium documents were misplaced.
After breakfast that I took together with my friend Alfred Butao, I left for Blantyre to pay registration and school fees at Skyway Business College. I did rural community development diploma 1 at Blantyre Business College but I just decided to do diploma 2 at Skyway Business College. After payment, I was told to start attending classes on 5th July 2008 for December exams. When I was about to leave school campus I received a call from my former lecturer who wanted to meet me within Blantyre city. We agreed to meet at a certain feeling station. I boarded minibus and got him already arrived at the place.
I woke early morning and switched on my radio. I was just listening to gospel music while waiting the sun to shine as was cloudy and cold. I was carried away by the music played. I took my baby while her mother was at the kitchen preparing breakfast. After breakfast, I took bath and later left for the church. We knocked off at 12:35pm. When we got home my wife cooked nsima that we took with goat meat. We all enjoyed that lunch.
I went to the work on my bicycle. I was arriving at 7:24am. I was knocking off at noon hour, as was weekend we work half day. When I arrived home, my wife told me that Alfred was at home asking me to watch the match at Chikwawa community. We enjoyed watching that match because it ended 1-1 draw. The way those two teams were playing was almost professional.
After Fairtrade inspection, I paid an excuse to rest at home, for I was working while sick. My boss admitted me to rest at home. I woke up early morning to visit my friend Alfred whose wife was down with pneumonia. My friend’s wife told me that she was not feeling good especially that last night but with the drugs given at the hospital, she was then feeling some major changes.
Although I was taking drugs, I continued answering most of the premium usage and procedures to follow when implementing projects. In the morning, the committee discussed with Kennedy things to follow and the potential of being compliance with the standards given. We had a lunch break and then continued at 2pm for fully documentation. We finished at 4pm. Kennedy left an inspection report for those three days.
All Fairtrade Premium committee members met early around 7am for interviews with Kennedy, the auditor. The meeting started at around 8am. Kennedy asked members the role they are playing to premium issues. He wanted to know some of the social economic development the committee had already implemented. He also said that he following day should be for last documentation. He also interviewed several cane farmers.
