Sunday morning I was at work doing irrigation. Most of our canes are improving due to continuous working with an aim of improving the canes production. My wife reminded me about the visit to Dembo where this old woman is basing. It happened that soon after writing examinations in 1999, I decided to marry Regina. Before official marriage, it was unfortunate that she passed away. It was so bitter to life. She had no both parents because I just understood that they passed away some years ago. Her mother died two year before I met her at Secondary school on fourth year. Regina was brought up by her old grandmother who is currently basing at Dembo, a ten (10) km away from my village, Chinangwa.
Since Regina died I have been visiting her grandmother because her three children passed away and she has nobody to assist her. Early June this year the old grandmother to late Regina called me at home. She complained about scarcity of various life sustaining basic needs. “My son I am starving food and clothing as well blankets as it is winter season” she told me at my home. My wife felt sorry about that. That is why this day we decided to visit her. When we reached there she was very happy. She welcomed us warmly. My wife sat beside her while the grandmother carrying Elod Kafaukoma junior. I left for nearby shops where I bought soap and other necessities.
We left for home at 5pm since 12noon. On the way back my wife said that she was very sympathetic the way this grandmother is living. “She was just crying that when she always see me she commemorate Regina. I advised her not to worry much for we shall keep on visiting her on monthly basis. It when you were at the shop” told me my wife, Bertha on left side. “The daily life cost is too hard to her because she can not even manage to indulge herself on agricultural production”. I replied Bertha while cycling back home. In a grass thatched house but very old really she starves. I too felt sympathy when she disclosed that the only grandson, 20aged and believes in drinking beer every time bulled her. Though she referred the matter, he was not taken for punishment at police station.
