As was advised that the weekend students should have classes, I went to attend in Blantyre. I left Chikwawa at 6 am, and arrived at 7:48 am. We started classes at 8:25 am. I turned home at 2 pm. It was good and happy holiday.
Wife left for Easter holiday
When I was leaving for Blantyre, my wife Bertha left for Ngabu to attend prayers on Easter holiday. Wife and I left home together and diverged at Dyeratu when she was heading to Ngabu and I to Blantyre.

Farmers gathered at around 8 am. There was a general meeting where farmers were updated the Fairtrade Premium income as well expenditure on social projects. The meeting ended at 1:30 pm as the Premium committee was looking forward to receive visitors from Sainsbury and Silverspoon on Fairtrade deal. Visitors arrived at 2 pm. They had discussions with Fairtrade Premium Committee members about the premium funded projects implemented in Kasinthula surrounding area. The Siverspoon representative appreciated the well done job premium fund committee has implemented in improving the social livelihood of the community. They visited Chinangwa electrification project and two boreholes for safe and clean water.

The man who asked the young boy to assist him with the means of transport stole the bicycle. The young was going to the market to buy relish. Before leaving the man who visited the boy’s home asked the boy’s father to lift him as he was going at the same destination. At the market, the man asked the boy to use the bicycle to boy cigarettes at a certain shop. It was around 9 am. He left but he did not return until 3 pm when the young boy decided to leave without the bicycle.

The man who travels almost 8km from his home to Dyeratu only for beer committed a road accident. He was so drunk and cycling on Chikwawa Nchalo road. Soon after leaving Dyeratu at around 11pm, he dragged himself to the long vehicle’s trailer that overtook him and was bounced away to the road drain and fainted.

At lunch hour I left for Dyeratu following the call from my friend Adam. Adam with his wife and two children were preparing food (nsima) for sale. Adam was cooking nsima while his wife sharing relish as well his children were cleaning plates. It was under tree restaurant but Adam was making money. I bought nsima with goat meat and vegetables that I enjoyed at Mk100.00.

The sworn ceremony of proposed village headman failed early in the morning. It was learnt that the proposed man just declare himself that the leadership was for his clan. Some two men who understand themselves that the village leadership was founded by their father. Those two men who are not related to the proposed man referred the issue to District Commissioner and Chikwawa police station and were advised to consult Traditional Authority Katunga to rule out the postponement.

Before knocking off, one of the thieves who used to damage Kasinthula canes was brought to the HR office by two cane guards with exhibition of two canes. The man was crying when he heard that he was going to be referred to Chikwawa police station.

On the way from a certain trading to take lunch while cycling, my friend Robert told me to stop cycling. “Is this live or dead snake?” Robert asked me turning closer where it was. This is dead one because the head is cut. It might be killed yesterday and you can see firewood it was burnt, I explained. We wondered who killed it and why. It was beheaded.
Two survived Mk200.00 for lunch.
Robert and I had not enough money. My friend advised me to buy simple food that we satisfied. We took a bottle of coke each and some bananas.
Concern Universal support
While showering, members of the Kasinthula Cane Growers gathered at the office looking forward for Concern Universal visitors. The meeting started at around 8:30 am. They explained that their main concern is to find out the Kasinthula farmers challenges in order to sustain it social and economically aspects mainly by providing capacity building to Kasinthula Cane farmers. It was really a welcome exercise.

When I was on bed at around 2 am, one of the Kasinthula Cane farmers’ brother knocked my house door. “What do you want at this odd hour? What do you to me?” I asked the one who knocked the door. He responded that he was Matthias who wanted me to assist him communicating the driver to bring the vehicle to ferry the patient to the hospital. I went to see the patient’s situation. She was watching some movies and took sleep, it was wonderful that she just complained that she was not feeling ok. I woke up to inform mum but when I came she did not respond, the husband explained. She was referred to Chikwawa hospital where she was declared dead.

I left in the morning for the work while hungry. I did not take any breakfast because there was no sugar and even bread or potatoes to have it. I did not enjoy the working hours because at around 9 am, I felt weak and tired. Before lunch hour, Charles provided me with a bottle of coke and biscuit.
Enjoyed fresh fish
Soon after knocking, I wanted to go home via Dyeratu to buy relish for my home. In the morning when I was leaving home, my wife informed me of shortage of relish. It was luck when a fisherman got us at the work place to while selling fresh fish. My family enjoyed the dish because my wife fried it very fantastic.
