Drizzling morning

It was called morning and drizzling. I took breakfast (rice porridge). I boarded the bicycle and arrived at the work. It was beautiful morning with cloud cover.

Down with fever

My wife woken up but I failed to respond because I was not feeling ok. She told me that the time for the work was about. She left me alone in bed. She went to assist my brother to harvest rice. I woke up and took breakfast and later on the pain killers.

I switched on my radio and listened to the voting results as the counting was still underway in some constituencies. Following some of the already results provided, the ruling party leader was leading. Many people predict that the ruling party would win after all ballots counting.

Enjoyed mice

In the evening, I was at home waiting for my wife. The boy who does some pieces of work at my garden brought with him almost 25 matured mice. He prepared and only boiled waiting my wife to do the final process. I enjoyed the supper in the evening.

Voting day

I left home without taking food at early 5 am for the voting centre (Mthumba Primary School). We set the voting materials in logical order. There were already thousands of people who came earlier than officials and monitors. All centers were scheduled to be open at 6 am and closed at 6 pm. Nine parliamentary candidates were contesting at Chikwawa central and seven presidential candidates.

One of the party representative brought with him nsima that I took. It was really tough day. The peoples turn seemed to be reduced at around 3 pm.

The ballot boxes were taken into the classroom for counting. The provided generator was switched on for light. The ballot counting was not simple as the monitoring. After counting officials and party representatives were discussing each and every various issues. We knocked off at 12 midnight and I arrived home at 1 am. Before knocking off, I called my wife, Bertha to prepare food for I was really hungry at that hour.

Ballot box blown in the air

In the afternoon we learnt that in Lilongwe the presidential ballot box at one polling center was blown in the air by a heavy wind whirl. The ballot box opened in the air and some papers were not found. It was really terrible and made many people be superstitious for another development happened that bees attacked people while on the line to vote.

Polling booth preparations

As I was one of the party representatives on the one of the polling centers, I was called to participate the preparation of setting the polling streams. We finished preparations and agreed to meet the following day before people coming for the polling. We set two streams A and stream B. teachers were most of the officials. The presiding officer explained most of the standards to be followed by the officials and party representatives.

The old primary school toilets

When I got at Mthumba Primary School, I was very amazed to see that school toilets were all broken and children are experiencing problems. The sanitation is very poor. I felt sorry because when I was at Mthumba Primary the infrastructure was very ok. This primary school was one of the model schools in Chikwawa district.

Hawk staring

The hawk was failing to catch its prey because the workers were near the small birds nests. Small birds built their nests just closer to the Kasinthula workshop. The hawk was just swearing in order to come close and catch some of these small birds. One of the workers stoned it and it just staring at the small birds all the way from the power line.

Missed breakfast

I woke up at 4:45 am. I took bath and asked cyclist to drive me to the depot. I boarded bus at 6 am. I did not take breakfast. When I reached Blantyre, I still not take any food because I had no enough money. What I had was transport to attend classes. We were knocking off at 1:40 pm. I footed from Soche to CI depot almost 7 km to board the bus. On the way footing minibuses were just passing me. It was tough day indeed. I was not really worried because I succeeded at school by passing 99% of the given exercise (sociology).

Community health understanding

I was arriving Blantyre at 7:12 am. I boarded the minibus to get to Soche where there is my school. I was second to get to the school. Within 20 minutes the fellow classmates arrived. The Community Health lecturer got in. We had almost 2 and half hours dealing with community health, the subject which the entire class enjoyed.

After enjoying this subject, another lecturer brought with him the sociology. We had lunch break at 12noon. Later we dealt with Project Management. We knocked off at 4 pm, and arrived Chikwawa at 6:50 pm.

Elections preparation

In Blantyre, many people were in ruling party colour and posters were attached to most of the vehicles. I assumed myself that the ruling party would win the 19th May elections.

Shadow MP called for preparations

Early morning around 4 am, I received a call from one of the aspirants as a candidate member of parliament at Chikwawa central. I was one of the people attended that meeting. The aspirant candidate advised the proposed party monitors to work extra hard on the day of the polling as well counting.

An excuse to go home

In the afternoon I paid an excuse to leave for home to prepare in terms of washing clothes and draw some money to be used for transport. I went to the borehole drawing water. And later I bought the washing soap. I was finishing washing at 3pm.

Cousin stole young brother’s money

My brother had been working in a tree planting woodlot, the project which runs by World Vision. Rural people participate in working and in return they are fortnight paid. He went together with the cousin to draw his money. They proceeded to a certain village to take beer. After they got drunk, the cousin persuaded him to keep his money safe for he confirmed the young brother of totally drunk.

When my young brother woke up in the morning, he noticed that the cousin kept his money, a pair of trousers and a pair of shoes. He went and knocked at his room. Unfortunately, the cousin was not inside. He went to the trading center looking for him, but he did not find him.

Man severely bulled over political issues

As Malawi is expected to have presidential and parliamentary elections on 19th May, people are everywhere campaigning. One of the Chikwawa central parliamentary candidates was conducting a campaign rally at Namalindi Primary School. One the candidate’s supporters was driving his vehicle heading where the rally was conducted. When passingby a certain house, he saw the current president’s face poster on the house wall. He stopped and got off the car. He went at the house and cut the poster into pieces.

The house owner was very furious when he saw him. He firmly hit him with a heavy load just before got in his vehicle. The man fell down. He was totally bulled and was rescued by some people who were too going to attend that rally.

Lunch missed

It was about 11:45 am, when one of the cane farmers got into the office where I was working. The farmer had negative attitude upon how I work. He claimed me that I am not working properly. “Tell me the problem you have experienced?” I asked him. It was worrisome for he was failing to disclose the problem he was talking about.

Later on he disclosed that he was not happy having seen me working at the position considered by the management. I noticed that he was jealousy over me. “The management considered me to work under this position. I really don’t know what’s your problem? You accusing me of failing to work properly, not explain the really problem. You might be jealousy.

The prodigal friend regrets

My friend who basically stays at Lauji village about 4 km from home (Chinangwa) whose father had been considering for several times was advised to be independent and stays away from his father’s home. He was once given school fees and he misused. His parents were so furious when they learnt that he fell in love with a certain woman who used to take beer in bars with different men. He was ordered by his parents to abandon the woman but it held no more water. His father chased him. He just married the woman without parental concept.

This friend got me home complaining about the run shot of white maize (staple food) at exiling home. “My friend I am failing to meet the daily basic needs for my wife and me myself. I really don’t know what to do. My father told me that I am longer his son” complained my friend. “You can only apologize your parents if you abandon your wife. You remember this woman is not faithful, that’s why your parents did not welcome her as daughter in law” I advised him.
