One of the suspected murder arrested

I saw police officers on their land cruiser with a man whom they suspect that he was one of the men at large since last year June. A woman at Bereu Trading was one night murdered while asleep. Her husband was away buying dry fish to sell at the market. He had one week before back to his home.

The woman found dead the following day when the just born baby was just crying without help. Some neighbouring women entered the house following the continuous crying of the baby. It was that time very sad and sympathetic. It was later known that the murders stole some goods. They killed the woman for they realized that she noticed some two of the murders.

Complained of the unbearable domestic violence

I was just coming from the market at around 6:25 pm. I heard woman’s voice crying as if there was funeral. I stopped to listen carefully. I wondered myself if that was funeral but I did not hear anything about the death. I stepped on closer to the house. I then heard the husband shouting outside the house. “Don’t play with me because I shall one day kill you and escape myself. If you want to leave for your parent’ home you can, and I am going to marry another wife” said the angry man.

The wife was inside the house while crying as well saying she was going to die because of the family affairs. I was very sympathetic with the victimized woman. I had to find out the following morning to know what was the cause that the woman was severe beaten. It was later noted that the woman did not prepare nsima (food) in time and that the man was angry with that.

Still taking kachaso while suffering malaria

My cousin’s husband was criticized for taking kachaso (local brewed beer) but with high unmeasured alcoholic percentage. He was taking malaria dosage and was almost to die because his wife did not assist him when he was complaining about how he felt after taking beer. His brother inlaw assisted him early in the morning by referring him to Chikwawa hospital. Most people believe that they are cured when taking kachaso while suffering.

Brother’s son almost to die

It was early morning when I heard a motor bike kicked on. I thought my brother was leaving for somewhere. I was amazed when I heard that his son fainted. The boy was carelessly driving the motor cycle when he just took it without consulting his father. It just fortunate that he was arrive but he failed to negotiate on the corner full with big stones.

His mother started crying for him when he heard that her son fainted along the road 500 km away from home when he just left home. He was taken back home by a certain cyclist while others took the damaged motor cycle.

Operations Manager on accident

The newly recruited Kasinthula Operations involved on a road accident when he was driving to his home in Thyolo district 80 km away from Chikwawa. It was until Monday not well known what caused that accident. I learnt late in the evening that the Operations was admitted at the hospital following that accident.

Buffalo damaged the green cobs

Some Kasinthula Cane farmers have access to grow maize during winter using the irrigation system for the canes. They grow three times per year. They enjoy their harvests and assuring food insecurity. Sometimes they fail to achieve the good harvests if the pump fail to function. One of the biggest challenges for this growing season is the damage by buffaloes while the maize plants are at the flowering stage. These buffaloes are from Lengwe National Park almost 40 km away from Kasinthula.

Young boy cried on the custody

One of the suspects who were arrested on 11th July 2009 who is 15 old was just crying day and night. It was around 4 pm where my brother went to visit him at Chikwawa police cell. When he saw my brother he started crying for him. One of the police officers said that the young boy is just crying every time.

“I withdrew the case on the presence of the magistrate, but there no mercy for the suspects. I decided to let them free because we live in the same village in order to prevent creating disagreements with the suspects’ relatives” said the complainant when interviewed.

Calling for quotation

Following the Kasinthula Fairtrade premium committee’s resolution on the meeting, an advert calling for quotations for the supply of materials for the premium funded development projects. Members of the Fairtrade Premium committee asked me to prepare advert for the quotations. Some bidders submitted their quotations on the very same day noon hours.

Farmers’ general meeting

Farmers met at around 8 am at Kasinthula offices for discussions. The meeting started with the prayer by P. Nyamande. The phase two chairperson presented the Board Meeting report. He also encouraged farmers to work extra hard in order to produce good quantity and quality of sugar for the farmers as well as employees advancement.

On Fairtrade Premium, I presented the second quarter premium income for social development of the famers, employees and the surrounding community. I reported the expenditure on the Kasinthula clinic project which is one of the premium funded projects underway.

It was nice fried pork

The Kasinthula Cane Growers chairman called the meeting with the Kasinthula management. He received the message when the meeting was in progress that his son was suffering and that there was a need of referring him to hospital. When the vehicle was leaving I accompanied the driver because I had other businesses to do. Peter the Kasinthula driver asked me if I do take pork. “why not” I replied Peter” he bough half kilogram and asked the seller to fry it. Some of the people were just buying for home, but Peter and I just enjoyed the pork at the spot after frying.

Vegetable and fresh beans the good stuff

From the Chikwawa boma, Peter told his wife to bring with her food at the work. Just after 10 minutes she brought it. Peter called me to descend at the workshop where he parked the 7 tonne truck. It was indeed nice lunch because there was good relish. The vegetables and fresh beans. It was really nice. I congratulated Peter’s wife for the nice meal she brought.

Elod Kafaukoma Jr cried after the music

I was just arriving from the work. My wife was chatting with her friends outside the house. When she recognized that I was inside the house from the work, she got in and welcomed me.

My son 1 year and few months old followed his mother inside the house. He found me watching and listening to a certain music done by Chameleon, the Ugandan artist. The very young amazed us when he started crying just soon the music ended. His mother and were totally amazed because Junior was just pointing to the screen’s window. When I angled the music the young boy stopped crying and trying to dance. I tried to switch on and off to verify but it was true that Junior was carried away by the Ugandan Artist, Chameleon.

Fairtrade Premium Committee meeting

In the morning at around 8 am, the Fairtrade Premium Committee met at the office for the discussions. The main body committee members met before me being the committee’s advisor. I was later called to report the second quarter premium income.

I presented the Fairtrade premium report. Firstly I highlighted the premium members to be compliant in all levels with Fairtrade standards when implementing premium funded projects. When concluding, members resolved to conduct farmers’ meeting for premium income and update presentation.

The damaged bread

The customer who damaged bread value Mk450.00 was called at village headman Chinangwa for the hearing. The customer did not agree with what the shop owner answered on a bottle of cocacola. The customer damaged bread on the shop following the disagreements. The matter was settled down early in the morning when the sun was just rising.

Enjoyed nsima and chicken

I woke up early in the morning sweeping my house compound. My wife was at the borehole drawing water. “I don’t know where are getting relish for lunch, because I am run shot of money for today’s relish” my wife Bertha told me. Why can’t you just catch one of the cocks maybe we only enjoy today with nsima. We can not rear chicken and not enjoying by taking it with nsima. I replied Bertha.

She prepared the chicken that we enjoyed with nsima just soon after church service. Ndaona and Elod Junior too enjoyed the meal.
