Sensibilization to sesame farming

My wife hired two men to assist making ridges in preparation for the growing season to plant sesame. When I was leaving for Blantyre to attend classes, I advised my wife to notify those who registered that they are willing to grow more sesame this year. “Tell them that they can see me in the afternoon when I am back from Blantyre for so that I could clarify better on how they can benefit when growing sesame than other cash crops.

At around 6 pm, twenty interested farmers got me home where I advised them about how they can grow sesame and the readily availability of market. They were all interested and promised to grow more than other crops.

Absent from work

I woke early around 5:20 am. I felt myself that was weak that I could manage to go to work. I told my wife Bertha that she should prepare break fast for me promptly because I was not going to work. I felt some sort of fever. Wife gave me some drugs to take.

My dog “Lion” lost in the bush

My son McAlfred and his friends went for hunting. They moved long distance without killing any animal. When they were coming back from the bush, they realized that one of the dogs was missing.

My dog came late in the afternoon while we were about to go to bed. My wife provided lion with food because it spent a day without taking food. Lion was very hungry when getting home.

Enjoyed goat meat

“Dear you have money, let us take goat meat for it has been almost a week without taking meat. I feel comfortable if we enjoy goat meat” she said. “You are right be prepared you go and buy” I responded.

We enjoyed the lunch together with McAlfred and Elod Kafaukoma junior (sons). In after afternoon my wife mocked McAlfred that he was not going to take food because he doesn’t like repeating relish that he has already taken. McAlfred was almost to cry for he knew that he was going to miss the super supper.

Back home pocketless from the bank

Two Kasinthula Cane farmers went home pocket less from bank where they went to withdraw their advances. They went to withdraw forgetting that they took lots money from revolving fund.

Most of the farmers are improving following the revolving fund they obtain at the organization. There are some who fail even to buy food even though they are offered the loan. These farmers and their families are starving when they misuse the offered revolving fund for they are deducted more and leaving their accounts empty.

Judith Njikho bought me nsima

At lunch hour just soon after learning Business Management, Judith asked me to escort her in town on her vehicle (RAV4). I told Judith that I had no enough money to buy food and for transport back to Chikwawa. “Don’t worry I am going to buy you” she warmly responded. I thanked her for the assistance because I was confused where to get money for lunch. “Thank you for being kind to me Judith” I told her.

Funeral speech angered many

I left early in the morning for Supuni village to attend funeral ceremony of my cousin’s husband. I was accompanied by friend Alfred Butao.

The burial ceremony started at 2:30 pm. One of the deceased representatives was asked to give the last speech to the people present. “I am sure that this brother has gone. Others are tomorrow coming to ask the widow to fall in love. Don’t come because is going not to be married” he said while shouting as if was not funeral ceremony. Many people were angered with the speech because he spoke out of the situation. Later on he was called for hearing before the village headman and other village leaders.

Son stole his mum’s bicycle

One of the Kasinthula farmers (a widow) bought her brand new bicycle to ease her movement when going to do cane field operations on daily basis. Her son who is married with one child came one night and stole the bicycle.

Many people in Chinangwa angered with that immoral behaviour. The woman is looking after some young children. She works alone without being assisted doing cane field activities. The man used to take beer each and time. His own wife left for her parents’ home for the man fails to support her.

Some people found the bicycle at Nedi village almost 3.5 km away from Chinangwa already sold to a certain brewer. The brewer said that he paid him cash and two bottles of kachaso as last payment. The woman sourced some money to pay back to the brewer and took her bicycle.

Bishop seized roofed church iron sheets

Bishop who oversees many churches in Chikwawa of Samaritan Church seized iron sheets from one of the churches he oversees. He used police officers with carpenters to remove the already roofed iron sheets.

I learnt from one of the church members that there were disagreements which development between the bishop and the church pastor over the power sharing. The church pastor requested the bishop not to remove the already roofed sheets instead the church shall just buy some new ones for him. Whatever the pastor said did not hold water anymore. The church pastor advised his followers not to worry for he shall find another mission to support the church. The church is now working on its own whilst looking for another mission.

Chinangwa village had beautiful surrounding forests in last 10 to 15 years. The growing population and other factors led to the degradation of the good environment.

Some trees which we knew before are now scarce that leads today’s generation fail to identify their local indigenous trees. Through Concern Universal effort of promoting environment and health in our village, people shall in future the potential from trees like fruits, medicine, woods, furniture and many more.
