A lion’s share

The day of exhausted hot condition than the past two ones I witnessed myself. A man who looks hungry had his almost 7 year old boy. Nobody in Chinangwa village knew where he was from and where was he heading to.

The son looked tired as well hungry. They were footing and sat under ntondo tree. There, along the road a man with a bundle of pieces of sugar cane was passing. His tired son begged a piece of cane and was offered 5 pieces. Boy’s father seized 4 pieces and cracked all for a couple of minutes. The young boy seemed angry for the disproportional share by his father. Alfred Butao and I were just staring at what was happening. We were just shocked of what unkind father did.

Husband’s private parts almost removed

Many cases of domestic violence women are always victims. In Malawi a number of cases referred to courts are those of mysterious harm of women by their husbands. Men always misinterpret their role being the family leaders.

It is different with what Mvula village people had been experienced. The man had been violated in various areas. Sometimes he was denied of accessing food. He always kept outside the house whenever he is drunk during odd hours.

More people were so sympathetic when they heard a man crying as if he was caught by a certain wild animal at around 10pm. Some well-wishers rushed to witness what was up. They found that the woman was struggling to remove her husband’s private parts by her both hands. The woman was pulling the private parts with her effective effort. The husband fainted just soon after rescued. Some angry men beat the woman following that mysterious murder attempt. The man was referred to Chikwawa hospital for help. When interviewed she said that she was tired of his drunkenness behaviour.

Drunkard couple starved

The family have children and grandchildren. They depend on farming to earn the daily living. Past year harvested more maize that would be consumed for a year. The couple forget of food security. People were just buying maize as maize selling organization.

The money was only almost 80% of the money was drinking beer. They were both drunk every day. On the evening of December 29, man was complaining to his young brother to assist him with only Mk250.00 so that he would only access 5kg of white maize for his home to have the day’s nsima. His neighbours and relatives agreed not support him in any case in terms of food, finance provision for his unforgotten lesson.

Holiday ended, back to work

As Christmas Festival continues towards the New Year Festival children were still demanding money for their own enjoyment. I was asked by my son McAlfred and sister in law Chisomo to them some money for continued Christmas box. The dances were expected to begin at around 2 up to late evening.

“I am firstly going to work. I am going to respond you just soon after my arrival” I advised them. “At what time are coming back?” asked McAlfred. I told him that I was expected to be around at 1pm. It failed to come back on promised time. I was arriving home at 4pm. I found McAlfred and Chisomo at home while angry. Bertha told that their friends have already gone for dances, but they don’t have money to buy their needs as others do.

Uncle enjoying chibuku

I woke up at 5am. My wife told me to remember that I had to prepare for the work for holiday was over. I was almost to absent from the work myself. I took bath and then breakfast ready for work. Some fellow were not present following holiday hangovers.

Only 4 people were present at work instead of 12. At 12midday, two friends and I knocked off.  When I got home I found my uncle already arrived at my home. He was enjoying chibuku beer (soft porridge like brewed by Chibuku Product Limited). “Uncle demanded chibuku just soon after his arrival. I just decided to send someone to 4 packets of 1 litre” said my wife. I welcomed and greeted uncle. I told him to feel home while taking chibuku when I was going to have a bath.

Two men arrested for defiling woman

Christmas cases were investigated on the following day (Christmas box). There were two cases from Chinangwa village only. One them was that two young boys were drunk and fought due to drunkenness. One them fainted headed by his friend. He was referred to Chikwawa police station.

The other one fell down from the bicycle that he was riding and fainted when he was from Nedi village, almost 5 km from Chinangwa where he went to buy kachaso beer.

At Mikanzo village, odd hours of no moon light and stars two men defiled a woman whom they proposed to have sex they met when she was heading to her home. They insisted of escorting her. On the central area of the distance, they just grabbed her grabbed her. She tried to call for help but they struggled to make her voice not heard. Others heard and rushed to rescue her. Attackers noticed the coming of the rescuers. They just stubbed her on the lower part of the stamina and fled.

Christmas celebrations

Children believe that they always enjoy various foods on Christmas Festival. Goats, pigs and chicken were everywhere slaughtered. Wife Bertha prepared breakfast that we enjoyed. Alfred and I preferred thobwa than tea.

Others were at their churches praising the name of Jesus. Some people were taking beer. With hangovers Felix was almost to die of hungry. Felix took beer since 23rd December without taking food (nsima).

More people specifically women and children were flocking here and there in new clothes only celebrating Christmas Festival. Children demanded lots money from parents respectively. There were various local dances performed.

Joseph Nkasa live at Sport 9

At 5pm, we were advised by the management that we shall have Christmas holiday until 26th December 2009. In the evening there was a dance at Sport 9 by Joseph Nkasa. It was phungwe dance where people flocked to support Nkasa’s tune. The Mose wa lero title carried away many people. Mlaitcha and I were tired at 2 am. We left for Chinangwa village at 2:35am.

A woman fainted with kachaso beer

Death cases by kachaso influence are common in Malawi. Kachaso is liquid locally brewed beer. It has no recommended measured alcohol percentage. Government did try one time to advise the kachaso brewers to cook food (nsima) before selling kachaso.

It was observed that kachaso has high volume of alcoholic percentage. A person has to take hard stuff before taking it. The woman started taking kachaso early morning when her fellow women were out for various businesses. At 2pm, she slept. Others thought that she was totally drunk and failed to walk. It was realised when the brewer wanted to provide her with nsima that she did not respond. Someone noticed that she fainted.

Woman arrested for dumping new born

The woman who is suspected to be one of the commercial sex workers damped a newly born. I learnt that she was forced by fellow workers to leave for hospital because they realised that it was their friend’s labour. She did not accept. Instead she bears at the room. It was around 8pm when a baby born. Her friends wondered that the woman had no baby and she put on her preferred clothes ready for socialising. It was later discovered by the land lord that was a baby damped in the pit latrine of the premises. The matter was referred to Chikwawa police and she was arrested.
