Biswas went to transplant rice early morning when it was sunny and hot. He worked until 4pm. When coming back to Chinangwa village someone reported to a man whose 2 cattle missed that Biswas had those missed cattle. The matter was referred to Chikwawa police. It was later found out by court that he was not guilty but jealous made the man who tipped the cattle owner reported the case being Biswas as the first suspect.

The Traditional Authority Katunga was tipped by other well wishers that other members in collaboration with management had a tricky move to recruit someone to succeed me. He called for a meeting whereby he reprimanded the committee and the management on my case. They all apologised for the inconvenience caused. I was at around 5pm when just knocking off called by the Traditional Authority Katunga at his office. He confirmed that I was supposed to work without any intimidation. It was quite fine for I was released of trauma.
I was called by the Fairtrade Premium Committee members to brief them about the Fairtrade cash book reconciliation for January 2010. I welcomed them in my office. “May you just brief us on how the premium cash book reconciliation is updated?” the FTP chairperson asked me. “It is possible any hour you can come and ask any Fairtrade related query I am totally answerable”. I responded.
Always I am happy working Fairtrade issues for I myself fully understand the potential when selling Fairtrade products. It is the rare honour Kasinthula to be registered as Fairtrade producer. I feel honoured myself to see premium projects implemented in various surrounding villages. The certification on Fairtrade deal is so special as I feel. All Fairtrade products consumers in developed countries should praised in all dimensions for promoting the disadvantaged lives of poor people.
It became office politics between management in collaboration with committee members and I. The Project Accountant brought two new faces to my office. “Elod, following what we have already agreed at the general manager’s office you’re supposed to hand over all information to these two” she advised me. “Madam, it is for me illogical to give information to someone whom I do not know” I told her. It was so embarrassing to my life because there were underground move to dismiss me without displaying their valid reasons. They failed to proceed with the move because they realised that I followed the logical order.
It was real intimidation from my management. It was in the office at 2:25pm when the project manager got in and advised me that I was urgently wanted at the General Manager’s office. There were four senior bosses. After welcome greetings at the office, I was firstly congratulated the way I handle Kasinthula Fairtrade related issues. “Thank you for your appreciation on what I do on daily basis”. I said to my bosses.
“Elod regardless that you are competent on how you perform, but the committee members have advised us being management that they don’t like continue working” the acting general manager said. “Did they give you the valid reasons why I should not continue or be dismissed?” I asked the general manager. In a couple of minutes when asked I did not answer because I was totally confused the way procedures to dismiss me were followed.
I later realised that that there was one of the committee members had his son whom he was fighting for to succeed me he had a dirty look at me. I asked the management to deal with me so professionally in order for them to get the right channel. I was totally confused and had nothing to say when asked to say the last word before closing the matter.
It was around 9am when Annette and Richard from Fairtrade Foundation arrived Kasinthula Cane Growers. They were warmly welcomed by Kasinthula Management. Thereafter, they discussed with Kasinthula Fairtrade Premium Committee on various development projects and there just budgeted projects. It was quite discussions that followed with already implemented premium funded projects.
They visited Kasinthula clinic expansion and Chinangwa electrification and interviewed Alfred Butao with his family. They took shots and were impressed with how the Chinangwa was transformed than before Kasinthula selling its sugar on fairtrade deal. Premium money changed Chinangwa to be probably the best village in Malawi.
Elod Kafaukoma Junior’s birth day
It was the special day for Bertha and I to have our son Junior entered the second year with good health and enjoys the breast feeding. My wife organised a party for Junior whilst I was at work. Junior’s friends were called to celebrate for this special day. I was given some snacks late in the afternoon when I just knocked off which were prepared on the party. I was pleased because my wife, Bertha in collaboration with her fellow women organised that party so successful.
I was back at school for the studies. It was a loss like day because we had only one subject, Business Management with Ken Tchunga. We were just promised that the Legal Framework lecturer was coming in our class at 1:30pm, but he did not until 2pm when we all agreed to leave for our homes respectively. With me from Chikwawa to Blantyre it was a cost having learnt only one subject.
It was my day to attend classes in Blantyre at Skyway Institute of Management and Research Development (SIMARD). I left Chikwawa for Blantyre at 6:12am. We started classes at 8am. The Project Management lecturer advised us that there was a College director who on the day scheduled to teach us an aspect on project management. The whole class admired the topic and wished to keep on learning until late in the afternoon than before.
The school director basically lives in Lilongwe at SIMARD Lilongwe campus. We asked him to visit us and even take a month while staying in Blantyre so that we would enjoy his teaching style as our fellow students do in Lilongwe from him.
Following the Kasinthula phase 3 expansion which is EU funded project aiming at eradicating extreme poverty and hunger more people gathered at the office for employment. EU funded Kasinthula Cane Growers with lots of Malawi Kwacha to expand Kasinthula to phase 3 where more canes are to be grown and new farmers registered farmers to benefit. It was just a rumour that influenced people to flock to Kasinthula offices for there are no any possibility in only depending on farming due to dry spell
I woke up early morning to clean my home compound. It was the only day that I was confused following that there was no any money that I could use to buy breakfast requirements like sugar, bread or cassava. I knew that I was going to work while hungry. It was indeed a tough day.
At around 10am, I received a call from school that I was urgently wanted to attend student and staff assembly. I paid an excuse to my boss and borrowed transport right at the office. I plead some money for meal but it held no more water. I arrived the school campus at 11:46am. The meeting ended at 2:50pm. I left for the depot where I met my friend Adam who bought me juice and snack. It was the day’s lunch taken at 3pm after starving.
