Following other misconceptions on how the Fairtrade Premium money should be utilised, the Kasinthula management in collaboration with me we organised a day for the members of the committee to fully understand the Fairtrade concept.
The training with the topic “Understand the Fairtrade Premium concept” started at around 8am. We organised the Fairtrade provided standards and other items for the members to understand better. I presented the Fairtrade standards and requirements to the members present. I was reading and translating myself in our local language.
The management commented that the awareness on the Fairtrade issues would assist more farmers understanding the Premium money and its utilization developmental areas to unprivileged producers, workers and the surrounding community.
Paul Nkanakhasu, the Kasinthula Fairtrade Premium chairman congratulated the exercise because it made them understand better how the concept should be followed to comply with standards. “I have already set some measures to meet workers in their working places with this programme. I shall schedule for the surrounding community with the same exercise” I told members when closing at 11am

I woke up early in the morning. My wife asked if I was going to Blantyre to attend classes. I told her that I would love if I could go to Blantyre but I had no enough money for transport. I tried to consult two brothers to borrow me Mk1,500.00 for simple lunch and transport. They both said they had no money. I called Malikebu who assisted me with only Mk1,000.00 for transport.
I left Chinangwa village for Dyeratu depot. I boarded a minibus and arrived Blantyre at 8am. At lunch hour Mr Mhalu provided me with lunch. It was indeed a tough day. We knocked off at 3pm.

Every 15th January Malawians commemorate John Chilembwe who died many years ago for his bravery actions. He fought with whites who did ill-treat Malawians. Malawians were sold in other countries as slaves. He went to America doing his bible studies. He was not agreeing with that time’s leadership before Kamuzu.
He made more people understand that they were ill-treated in various developments. He was killed by soldiers who had guns. He had his group who were fighting with enemies using their locally made weapons. Malawi government considered him hero of Malawi.

It was very sad when one of the Kasinthula’s irrigation supervisors caught his wife red-handed while with a man from Dyeratu. It was around 4pm when the woman paid an excuse to her husband that she was going to visit her friend just within the Salumeji village where they live.
Her husband did not realise that she was going out for immoral behaviour. Nkunkhe was at his new built house cleaning the compound. He was tipped by Denis that he should stop what he was doing. “Come and witness yourself what your wife is doing. We had been witnessing that your wife is not faithful. She is right now enclosed with a man whom we know that is from Dyeratu” Denis said when tipping Nkunkhe. Many people gathered at the house when the two were forced to get out of the house. It was very shameful when they were pulled out of the house.
Many people gathered as well the woman’s parents. They were both taken before Salumeji Group village headman where the unfaithful man accepted that he had been doing that immoral behaviour with Nkunkhe’s wife on the presence of more people who gathered at the village headman’s premises. “I don’t have anything to add or comment but this woman has divorced me. This is the complete separation between her and me. It has been a long time when I was suspecting her of being not faithful.

At 5pm, I was advised to prepare Kasinthula Fairtrade sales invoices and send them urgently as was required by Fairtrade customer for payment. When fellow workers were shutting down their computers, it was when I was switching on for the new development to be tackled. I continued working until 8pm. Kondwani drove me home.
